Iron-on patch application
You will need:
- a solid surface (table)
- a towel
- a sheet of parchment paper
- an iron (preheated to approx. 160°C, halfway between synthetic and silk settings)
Instructions
- spread the towel out on the table
- place the t-shirt on the towel and smooth it out
- position the iron-on transfer on the t-shirt
- cover the transfer with parchment paper
- place the hot iron onto the transfer and apply moderate pressure for approx. 30 seconds
- remove the iron and let it cool for approx. 1 minute
- carefully peel off the transfer film. If the transfer has not adhered in any spot, repeat steps 4-6 for that area
- cover the transfer with parchment paper again and iron over it once more for approx. 10 seconds
- turn the t-shirt inside out and iron the design for approx. 30 seconds from the reverse side
Towel on the table
We recommend working on a hard surface (a table) covered with a cotton towel. You need a hard surface to ensure the iron-on transfer and t-shirt do not wrinkle. The towel is there so you do not damage the table.
We do not recommend using an ironing board, as it is too soft.
T-shirt towel
Lay the t-shirt on a flat towel, making sure it is nice and smooth and that you have enough room to work. We recommend ironing the t-shirt at this point in the area where you want to place the iron-on transfer.
Position the iron-on patch
Place the iron-on patch onto the t-shirt.
Baking paper
Cover the iron-on patch with baking paper. We use baking paper to protect the t-shirt from potential staining.
Iron-on
Heat the iron-on transfer with an iron set to approximately 160°C (halfway between synthetic and silk) for about 30 seconds. Apply slight pressure with the iron, and if the transfer is larger than your iron, move the iron around to heat the entire image.
Larger designs may therefore require a longer heating time to adhere.
Let it cool down.
After ironing, let it cool for about 1 minute. This allows the adhesive to set and bond the image to the fabric.
Remove transfer tape
Once cooled, carefully peel off the transfer film.
If any part of the iron-on transfer has not adhered, press it back onto the t-shirt and repeat steps 4-6 on the problematic area.
Quick ironing
After removing the transfer foil, cover the image again with baking paper and iron briefly (approx. 10-20s).
Iron from the reverse side
Finally, turn the T-shirt inside out, place baking paper between the design and the other side of the T-shirt, smooth it out, and iron over the design from the reverse side for about 30 seconds.
