How to work with stickers
- !!! The temperature of the substrate and the sticker must be at least 15°C !!!
- The surface must be smooth, clean, degreased, and dry. You can degrease it with soapy water, for example.
- For safer placement on the substrate, we recommend following the video tutorial - separate only one corner of the backing paper and stick it to the surface. Subsequently, gradually separate the paper while pressing the sticker onto the surface to transfer the sticker.
- If the sticker is small, separate the white backing paper from it so that the sticker is on the transparent transfer film. Place the film with the sticker on the desired spot and smooth it down well. You can use, for example, the edge of a credit card. However, given the size of our stickers, your fingers will suffice.
- Carefully remove the transfer film. Peel off one corner and carefully pull the film away. Never pull the film away from the surface towards you! Fold the film back and pull it along the surface. The fine details in our stickers have limited adhesive strength. If you pull away from the surface towards you, you will stretch and ruin the sticker. If you fold the transfer film and pull it along the surface, you will better notice any potential adhesion complications with fine parts, allowing you to press them down again and try separating them from the film.
- Once you have successfully separated the transfer film, I recommend taking the backing paper, placing it smooth side down on the sticker, and pressing and smoothing it down again through the backing paper.
Ideal application procedure
In this video, we show how the application should ideally proceed.
First, try to separate the sticker from the backing paper. If it doesn't work, simply press the transfer tape down and try again.
Once you have managed to separate the entire sticker from the paper, place it back onto it (to prevent accidental sticking) and bend one corner.
Stick the exposed corner of the transfer tape to the surface and, using a credit card or similar tool, slowly press the tape onto the surface. At the same time, peel the backing paper away from the sticker.
After applying the sticker to the surface, peel off the transfer tape (using a sharp fold).
Example of window application
A high-tack transfer tape is used in this video. Therefore, the "test peel" step of separating the sticker from the paper backing has been skipped.
The sticker is applied to the glass using a credit card technique, starting from the exposed corner.
The transfer tape is removed by folding it back completely and peeling it off slowly.
Folding the tape back completely is an important step that helps ensure the sticker separates correctly!
Difficult removal of transfer tape at low temperature
In this video, we demonstrate applying a sticker to a cold surface in cold weather.
When the surface and air temperature drops below 15°C, the adhesive on the sticker stops sticking. At the same time, the vinyl film becomes brittle and refuses to adhere to the surface.
The adhesion problem is also exacerbated by the fact that atmospheric moisture can condense under the sticker in areas where you touch it and the surface with your hands.
Sticker adhesion technique for issues with stickiness
In this video, we are applying a sticker to a wooden door that has not been sanded or varnished.
The wooden surface therefore consists of a large number of tiny fibers, which reduce the sticker's adhesion.
Application to such a surface is possible, but very difficult.
Removal from backing paper - low-tack film
To make application easier, we have started using a low-tack transfer tape. This makes it easier to separate the tape from the sticker during application. However, it has the opposite problem: it may leave the sticker on the backing paper. If you peel it off the paper carefully, you can simply press the tape back onto the sticker and try again.
Alternative application method
If the sticker is small, it can be applied just like a "regular" sticker. However, with this application method, there is a risk of a part of the sticker accidentally sticking to the surface. If the sticker accidentally adheres, it is very likely that you will not be able to peel it off and will destroy it.
